Jessica Hayes

Who are you and what do you do at Apollo?

My name is Jessica Hayes and I am the Marketing Associate and Recruiter at Apollo.

Tell us about yourself and what your life was like growing up.

My life revolved around sports, time spent with family, and friends. I started playing competitive sports since fourth grade, so that surrounded me quite a bit. Being around this competitive atmosphere led me to play collegiate volleyball and now being in a competitive atmosphere at Apollo. My family and friends all lived very close to me growing up so I spent lots of time with them. We would do things such as going to the lake, cooking, and sleepovers.

What did you do before you came to Apollo?

I graduated with a Marketing degree from Emporia State in May 2020, so right in the middle of COVID. I got a job after graduation that consisted of sales and management. I did that for a year, and learned so many business skills such as management, recruiting, sales, leadership, and so much more. While learning all these skills, I realized that I wasn’t pursuing what I was truly passionate about which was marketing and relationships with people. This is what has led me to Apollo.

How/why did you start working for Apollo?

I started working for Apollo mostly because of the culture and change in my job duties. Like I mentioned above, I wanted to get way more creative in my marketing skills and really develop in that area. I love working with people and building genuine relationships, so I wanted to continue that with a new job. The culture is super young and energetic at Apollo and that really drew me in.

How have you seen Apollo grow and change since you started working here?

Mostly with the marketing department because there really wasn’t anything; we were building from the ground up. I see how far we’ve grown with social media and different marketing projects; we’re finally seeing them all come together. It hasn’t been long, but it’s crazy how much we’ve grown. Same with recruiting; we’re hiring and pursuing a lot of people early, which hasn’t happened in years past. I’m just seeing overall improvement with everything.

How do you think that you’ve grown since you started working here?

Being one of few girls in a male-dominated culture kind of stretches you out of your comfort zone. I would say I’ve really grown relationship-wise and my ability to connect with different people. My goal is to really grow Apollo’s diversity with this next recruiting class. I want to make an impact especially with females in the workplace and make a presence.

What do you like about the culture at Apollo?

I love that I can be my own person; I don’t have someone micromanaging my every move all the time. They trust me to do my job. If I need help, then there’s always somebody to help me out. The leadership cares about my personal life and things I do outside of work. It is great to know that they want the best for me in and out of work.

What sort of things do you like to do when you aren’t at work?

The same things as when I grew up, honestly. I love hanging out with my boyfriend, family, and friends. I like being active, so I like to work out at the gym or go on walks with my dog. I like being creative outside of work, so I like to do different crafts and projects. Lastly, I really like personal development, so I try to read books, listen to podcasts, to really try and grow myself.

What do you want to do or accomplish in the future?

Professionally, I want to make sure that I’m hitting the goals that Apollo has. For recruiting, for example, we’re hiring 30 to 40 new agents. Community/Volunteer wise, I want to make sure that we’re involved with the Lee’s Summit Chamber and being involved with a volunteer project every month. With our marketing department, I want to keep growing our online presence and community presence. I want to see improvements in every one of these categories year after year.

Personally, I want to be married within the next year or so. I also want to have my own house in the next 2 years. I love to travel, so I want to go on more vacations this coming up year.

Marquan Hughes

Who are you and what do you do at Apollo?

My name is Marquan Hughes. I am a junior partner at Apollo, and I also help with recruiting. So, career fairs and any events regarding student interaction I’m involved with.

Tell us about yourself and what your life was like growing up.

I’m the youngest out of 7 siblings. I have a twin who is 5 minutes older than me, so I almost beat him out of the womb, but I didn’t quite make it. Growing up was pretty fun; I always excelled at sports, I had a lot of interaction with other kids, and I just stayed very active.

What did you do before you came to Apollo?

I was a student before Apollo. I had a lot of jobs in college: I was a server, a FedEx driver, etc., but it was always school plus a little side job.

How/why did you start working for Apollo?

Luke Eckley, who is the current president of Apollo, was my best friend growing up. I used to go over to his house for sleepovers, we played on the same basketball team, Scott Eckley (the owner of Apollo) was my basketball coach, we were tight knit. One day Luke and I were on the phone catching up, like we normally do, and he mentioned that his dad was starting this insurance company. He said that they had an office downtown and asked if it was something I would want to do, and I said yes. I thought that I might as well take a leap of faith, get out there, and see what I could do. That was 4 years ago, and I’ve been here ever since.

How have you seen Apollo grow and change since you started working here?

I’ve been here since the beginning, and it’s grown so fast. It started with 3 of us in the office, then it turned into 12, then 24, then 30 and more as the years progressed. I think we’re doing a lot of things right in the industry and right by our agents, and that’s led to rapid growth. The culture and atmosphere make our agents feel wanted and keep us growing.

How do you think that you’ve grown since you started working here?

I was young when I first started working here; I’m still young, but back then I was really new to the workforce. I didn’t have a lot of responsibilities, and I didn’t care to. As the company grew and needed certain roles fulfilled, it made me want to step up and rise to the occasion and be a benefit to the company. Doing that matured me so much and made me think of my life and my future differently. This job has really changed me a lot. I’m more mature and I have better communication skills; I’m blessed.

What do you like about the culture at Apollo?

It’s a family. When I walk into work, it feels like I’m seeing family. We go to events, we golf, we play basketball on the weekends, we get coffee together. But it’s more than that; we connect on a personal level. It’s one thing to work for a place where you can have associates, it’s another if you can have lifelong friends. You have both of them here.

What sort of things do you like to do when you aren’t at work?

I have a wife that’s my best friend whom I love to death. We hang out all the time. We’ll watch movies or tv, and we like to eat food. We don’t eat out very often, but we like to cook. My wife is a great cook, so she likes to cook for me, whether it’s pasta or her special chicken fajita pasta.

We also have a one-year-old daughter named Rocki. The three of us will go on walks or play with her toys when we aren’t at work. Being there for her, watching her grow, capturing those moments; I love it all.

What do you want to do or accomplish in the future?

In regard to Apollo, I’m looking to continue the growth that we’ve had. I want to continue recruiting the right people and make sure that they’re sticking. I want this to be the right place for people that want a career. I’m also looking to become a partner within the company.

Personally, I just want to continue to be a great father and a decent husband. We’re house hunting now, so a house will probably be in the works within a year. Then, I want to invest in my wife and her other ventures, be it real estate or others.

Austyn Bair

Who are you and what do you do at Apollo?

I’m Austyn Bair. I’m a sales associate, our recruiting manager, and part of our leadership team.

Tell us about yourself and what your life was like growing up.

I’m from Warsaw, Missouri, which is a very small town of about 2,000 people in mid-Missouri. I graduated high school in 2014, then went to Mizzou and graduated there in 2018. I’ve been at Apollo for three years. Growing up, I was the oldest of 5 and loved sports. I wrestled, played football, watched sports, etc. I still have family in Warsaw and Springfield.

What did you do before you came to Apollo?

I was a full time student at Mizzou. Off time, I worked for my dad (who is a restaurant owner in Springfield). I helped manage and things like that before I decided to move to Kansas City and start something for myself.

How/why did you start working for Apollo?

I was connected through a fraternity brother. The opportunity and culture are what drew me. The fact that they’re a family-owned company meant a lot to me, and being a culture where family comes first, and we operate as a family. With that came the opportunity to lead others and make a difference in the business, not just be a number.

How have you seen Apollo grow and change since you started working here?

When I started, my interview was done at a restaurant because they were painting the office. There were 5 or 6 people who were already in the office, and my group of 10 or 12 that came right out of college. We didn’t know much, and the team that was training us were also training people for the first time. We grew a lot, we learned a lot, and now we have processes and systems in place and almost 50 people in our office. I’ve seen vision changes as well. We have goals for a Chicago office and success there. So, it’s changed a lot.

How do you think that you’ve grown since you started working here?

I think that I’ve grown a lot as a salespreson and a leader, but also personally. I feel confident and like I can relate to a lot of different people with different backgrounds and past experiences. The biggest growth in my confidence, I think, is that I’m comfortable with being uncomfortable. I feel like I have the tools and abilities to lead others.

What do you like about the culture at Apollo?

Looking forward to who I work with every day. Even when we’re all here for 12 hours a day in our busy season, we all still have a good time and take care of each other. I’ve felt that. I’ve been through trials and tribulations, and I’ve always felt cared for and taken care of.

What sort of things do you like to do when you aren’t at work?

Hang out with a big group of friends, watch sports, just be with people. Even if I’ve talked to people all day at work, I still want to see people after work. I like travel, especially. I love going and seeing places I haven’t been.

What do you want to do or accomplish in the future?

I want to see a successful Chicago venture. I would like to be able to pour myself into future salespeople and feel that I’ve been able to help others duplicate my success. I just want to accomplish managerial success, to feel like I’m a mentor and a leader.

Matt Sisk

Who are you and what do you do at Apollo?

My name is Matt Sisk, and I am from the east side of St. Louis in Illinois. I was born and raised in a small town called Millstadt, Illinois. Growing up I had an older brother and sister (I enjoy being the baby). Here at Apollo, I am a sales associate and I do a little bit with recruiting. That’s a new task I’ve started taking on.

Tell us about yourself and what your life was like growing up.

I was super fun growing up. I played sports year-round. I was always doing something with sports whether it be baseball, basketball, football, or something else. I was picked on by my brother and sister a lot, which was fun. I went to Belleville West high school. Both my parents were awesome people, I love my parents to death. For about 5 years it was a little bit rough, and we struggled as a family, but it’s something that I’ve taken with me and learned from.

What did you do before you came to Apollo?

I went to school. That was it. I had jobs in between: I worked at the bar, at a restaurant, water treatment. But, mainly just school at Missouri State. I finished school in 2020 and I’ve been at Apollo since.

How/why did you start working for Apollo?

I knew someone who worked at Apollo, and I met Apollo as a company through the guys at a career fair. I was super intrigued with all of the things they brought to my attention like the uncapped income. I really liked the culture that they displayed at the career fair, so that’s kind of where it started. I came in for an interview, took the job on the spot, and went from there.

How have you seen Apollo grow and change since you started working here?

I’ve been here for 1 new incoming class in addition to mine. I’ve seen a change in culture. I think the culture has grown as the company’s grown. We do more things outside in the community now, which we didn’t do when I started. We have a much larger impact on people and reach a much wider audience now. I think the company is just continuously growing and the amount of people that we hire is growing.

How do you think that you’ve grown since you started working here?

I have matured a lot. Living on your own and having a full time job puts things into perspective. I think I am more of an adult and not so much a kid. I have taken on many more responsibilities and grown within those.

What do you like about the culture at Apollo?

I like the fact that we’re all friends. Yes, we’re coworkers, but we’re also friends. I’m able to just come into work and enjoy it, but sometimes I don’t want to leave my friends. I’ll say, like, “Hey, let’s go grab a bite to eat after work” or “Hey, let’s go out on the weekend together.” I think that’s the biggest thing for me. The culture is very competitive as well, so it makes me want to do better every day and grind. Not a lot of companies have that.

What sort of things do you like to do when you aren’t at work?

I love golfing, watching sports, and basically anything a 23-year-old would say they like to do. No, but honestly, I like being around my family. My family isn’t in Kansas City, so anytime I get to see them is really fun for me. I love driving the four hours down I-70 just to see them for a weekend. In the summertime, like I said, golf, the lake, really anything. I’m a pretty open guy, so if somebody wants to go do something then I’m probably going to be down for it.

What do you want to do or accomplish in the future?

Professionally, I want to have a big impact at Apollo. I know as we continue to grow that I’ll have a role in it, but I want to have a very large role. I don’t know how long that’s going to be, but I do want to have an impact on Apollo that helps us grow. Then personally, I want to be financially stable and I want to have a family, but I’m 23 so I don’t know how far down the road that is.
