When to Enroll in West Virginia Health Insurance

The right time to enroll in health insurance in West Virginia depends on the type of health insurance that you want to enroll in. West Virginia health insurance falls into two buckets: On-Exchange (Affordable Care Act / Obamacare insurance) and Off-Exchange (Other plans that do not follow the ACA regulations).

Most people can only enroll in an On-Exchange plan during the Open Enrollment period. For 2023 plans, Open Enrollment will be from November 1 – December 15, 2022. To enroll outside of the Open Enrollment period, you must have a qualifying life event.

There are no laws in West Virginia regulating when you can or cannot sign up for an Off-Exchange plan. Private carriers can, of course, impose their own rules about when someone may sign up for coverage. Generally speaking, though, you can sign up for Off-Exchange plans at any time of the year.

Apollo Insurance Group works hard to find the best providers of reliable health insurance in Indiana. Indiana uses the federal Marketplace for Affordable Care Act insurance plans, but Indianans also have the option to enroll directly with carriers. However, this is not recommended; only plans enrolled through the Marketplace are eligible for subsidies and cost-sharing reductions, both of which can substantially lower the costs associated with insurance.
